Helmet CE EN 1078 Certification

The most up-to-date information that we can find
about recognition of CE EN 1078:2012+A1:2012 certification in Canada.
Each province has different rules so use this to decide on your Catlike
purchase!

We will be working on getting Catlike on CSA certification.

  • British Columbia

B.C. Reg. 234/96 does not list CE EN 1078 in their recognized safety standards meaning it does not conform with the province's laws for bike helmet at all ages. We were in contact with the BC Government and they have been "made aware" of our request to have it added.

  • Alberta

The Alberta Government lists CE EN 1078 in their 122/2009 Traffic Safety Act meaning they are 100% good for use at all ages in Alberta! This conforms with their age-restrictive helmet law!

  • Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Government has no helmet regulations. Government-funded SKPrevention recognizes CE EN 1078 standards. Some local municipalities have helmet by-laws: Moose Jaw specifies "or by a similar recognized certification", Yorkton does not specify a safety certification, and Estevan does not recognize CE EN 1078 for users under 16.

  • Manitoba

The Government of Manitoba recognizes CE EN 1078 safety standards! To conform to the under 18 law, you can use Catlike. Fire away!

  • Ontario

Ontario's R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 610 does not list CE EN 1078 in its approved options meaning it does not conform with the province's laws for bike helmets on everyone under 18. Hypothetically, anyone over 18 can still use a Catlike helmet. When brought up to the Ontario Government, they said "it is not under active consideration".

  • Quebec

Ride on! Quebec recognizes CE EN 1078 helmets on their approved standards list even though they don't have a mandatory helmet law!

  • New Brunswick

This government is a little vague in what is "approved". Fredericton
lists EN 1078 as an option, but the province itself does not have a
list. Proceed at your own discretion as they do have a law for all
    cyclists.

  • Nova Scotia

Go ahead! The Nova Scotia Government recognizes the European Committee for Standardization. Nova Scotia has a mandatory requirement for all cyclists!

  • Newfoundland and Labrador

Unfortunately, the Newfoundland and Labrador Government does not recognize the CE EN 1078 for their all-age mandatory requirement. No word back from their government yet.

  • Prince Edward Island

The Government of PEI does not recognize CE EN 1078 in their list of approved safety standards for their mandatory helmet law! No word back from their government yet.

  • Yukon, NWT, Nunavut

There are no legislated helmet requirements in any of the Territories. Whitehorse has a bylaw but allows for "CSA approved or equivalent" helmets.
