MasterWax Buyer’s Guide

The MasterWax cold-apply system is a fantastic way to get fast skis quickly without putting your heath at risk. We highly recommend reading more about the concepts and benefits of cold apply waxing here.

This article is a buyer’s guide to help you select the perfect kit for your needs.

MasterWax has introduced an entirely new line of fluoro-free racing glide waxes called the RACING FLUORFREE. So far, there is only one tier of fluoro-free waxes from MasterWax. Unlike the fluoro MasterWaxes from the bad-old days, (when there was a high-fluoro line, medium, and LF lines of waxes for your confusion) now there’s only one line of fluoro-free waxes to choose from for all your racing or training needs.

There are four waxes in the RACING FLUORFREE line:

New Snow for 0C to -5C,

Transformed from -1C to -6C (for older snow),

Medium from -4C to -10C (all snow types)

Cold from -7C to -14C (all snow types)

In temperatures between 0 and -14C, the MasterWax RACING FLUORFREE waxes are, more often than not, the fastest option when compared to Liquid or Melt waxes. However;

MasterWax felt that advertising their waxes for above 0C was not wise since their performance is too lacking vs. fluoros. It is just not possible to get racing performance in wet snow from a non-fluoro wax. For temperatures above 0C, it’s best to use either the New Snow or Transformed. The reason the temperature range does not extend higher is because the old fluoro waxes are massively faster in wet or dirty conditions.

For temperatures below -14C, using green paraffin melt wax or a synthetic hardener is the only way to get racing level performance. Again, it’s just not possible to get racing-level performance from a wool-apply wax below -14C.

All these waxes and their wool applicators & tools can be bough individually, but we highly recommend choosing from the kits below to save big on costs:
